When the Bus Never Shows Up: A Rant About First Bus Services
Hey everyone,
Hope you’ve all had an amazing weekend and a good start to the week.
Today’s post is more of a complaint — aimed at First Bus Services and maybe even the local council.
So, here’s what happened.
This Afternoon, I was waiting at the bus stop for what felt like forever. Three buses went past — one I didn’t need, and two that I did. The first one I wanted came past but never returned. Then the one I didn’t want showed up again, and about half an hour later, the 102 finally came around… or at least, it was supposed to. It never appeared again.
I ended up ringing my partner, who said to give it another 10 minutes and then start walking home. I set a timer on my phone — and then suddenly saw the 105 coming up the road. I ran to the stop, jumped on, and asked the driver why the 102 hadn’t come back round.
He told me, “We don’t go that way anymore.”
I replied, “Well, there’s nothing telling you that — and your app says it does!”
He apologised, but honestly, that’s not good enough.
I’m autistic and have severe mental health issues, and I already find using the bus app confusing at the best of times. When the information isn’t correct — no signs changed, no updates in the app — it just makes everything worse. I got really angry and upset about it because it could be so easily avoided.
If the bus doesn’t go that route anymore, take the sign down and update the app!
It’s not complicated — and it would save a lot of people confusion, frustration, and stress.
Sorry for the rant, but this really got to me today.

Dear John
I feel for the lack of safety that this event created.
I hope you get over the anger, and it does not fester.
