Seeing Ruby Wax
Hi everyone, I hope you are all well and good and enjoying the UK weather.
So I finally got to see Ruby Wax in Ipswich on the 21st of June with my sister. Can I just say for a 71 year old she ain’t half got some energy lol! So me and my sister travelled down to the Corn Exchange in Ipswich and managed to find a car park that was about a 5 minute walk away not even that. They scanned out ticket and then we went through to the bar to grab a drink, I was quite shocked at the price of the drinks because I’ve been to smaller venues where the prices were almost double so I was happy with that.
The bar room started to fill up and I began to get nervous and my anxiety started to rise.. I was conversing with my partner over message to calm me down. I didn’t know the right place to stand so I felt safe and could calm down. My sister joined a mile long queue for the toilets and I kept moving around the bar to see where I felt safe, I found a spot with my back against the wall where I could see everything and escape if I needed to. I could feel a slight breeze which was nice and I felt more at ease.
So I first saw Ruby Wax when she did a Ted X Talk and I saw it online, she was so passionate and had a humorous side when she would talk about mental health. If you have seen some of my older blogs or podcasts then you will know that humour is one of my coping techniques that helps me with my mental health. Ruby came out to a huge round of applause and gave a short snippet of what the show was going to include, she then went off stage and came back on in a couple of minutes in to my surprise her pyjamas. That’s right, she did the show in her pyjamas.
The first part of the show she was going through the chapters in her book ‘I’m not as well as I thought I was’.
She was up and off the table like anything, I’m 35 and I would struggle to so what she did haha! She then spoke about her animals that she has met on her travels and well the turkey and the wounded turkey impressions had me in fits of laughter, there were even tears at one point because of how funny I found it.
Then came the interval and I was glad to have a chance to go and stretch my legs and have a toilet break. After this I went back to my little spot I found before the show started and then we went to grab a drink before heading back in.
What really shocked me was the lack of people that left before the Q&A.. why buy a ticket and then leave half way through.. it really amazed me.
I managed to ask Ruby a question and I told her that I fund doing my blogs and podcasts have been a form of self therapy as the services I was under weren’t great. She replied that she agreed and that you have to find the right Psychiatrists.
Would I got to the venue again to watch Ruby.. that is a big yes for sure, she was amazing.
Thank you to Ruby and the Corn Exchange in Ipswich for hosting and putting on a great show.
Enjoy the weekend ahead and have an amazing week!
Also people can you help support me with keeping my equipment up to date, the cost of running the website and other little bits. Or even a cheeky Pepsi max to drink while I write the blog at the link below
